Brave Man Giant Snake
Once upon a time, there was a small, beautiful village located near a big river, close to a dense forest. The villagers lived peaceful lives. Some farmed rice and crops, some fished, and some others hunted animals for a living. Every household raised animals such as chickens, ducks, pigs, cows, and buffaloes. The villagers lived happily and always helped one another.
However, this happiness did not last long. Strange things began to occur in the village. Livestock started disappearing, crops were damaged, the river had fewer fish than before, and the forest was no longer rich with animals.
One day, a brave young man named Kla gathered the villagers to discuss what was happening. Kla said, “Brothers and sisters, we cannot let this continue any longer. Tonight, I will go out to watch and investigate. Perhaps we will find some clues to the problem.”
That night, Kla and three other men went on patrol. Suddenly, they encountered a huge snake, black like the trunk of a palm tree, with eyes as red as blood. The snake was catching and eating the villagers’ livestock. As it slithered away, it lashed its tail, hitting houses and trees, breaking them apart. The three men were terrified and fled in all directions.
The next night, the snake, was annoyed by the disturbance caused by the four men, came out to invasion. It destroyed villagers’ houses, and people panicked and they were running everywhere throughout the village in fear.
The following day, the brave young man Kla told the villagers that he would go into the forest to take down the evil snake. Otherwise, the villagers would never be able to live in peace. Before entering the forest, Kla’s mother took him to see a monk to receive a blessing for victory.
Kla then went alone into the deep forest with great courage, even though no villager dared to accompany him. When he reached the heart of the forest, Kla shouted, “Evil giant snake! If you are brave, come out and challenge me to the death!”
Moments later, trees around him cracked and fell, animals fled in panic, and the giant snake appeared, raising its long body behind the man. Its eyes glowed red, blue, and yellow, and its sharp fangs were white like cotton. The snake circled Kla, preparing to attack. However, Kla was not afraid. He carefully looked for the snake’s weakness.
The snake tried to attack Kla a few times, but Kla dodged each strike. The snake chased the man all over the jungle breaking trees. Finally, Kla leapt forward and stabbed the giant snake in the neck. The snake convulsed violently, destroying the surrounding forest. Before long, the giant snake died.
Kla became the hero of the village. The villagers celebrated and rejoiced over the successful elimination of the great disaster—the giant snake. From that day on, the villagers lived happily and peacefully once again.
Moral : A hero is born in times of great danger.
